Sasee Hat and Ilka Doubek
I spent this month with Ilka Doubek, the artistic director of Litchfield Dance Arts Academy. What a creative, Sasee lady!
Kitty Vickery and Kathy Laney passed me on to Ilka Doubek, owner and artistic director of Litchfield Dance Arts Academy (LDAA), a performing arts center in Pawleys Island specializing in dance. The Academy houses a studio theatre which seats 120, four spacious dance studios, closed circuit monitoring to all four studios, a viewing gallery, a quiet area for students to finish homework, a student lounge with vending machines, a spacious dressing area, a dance wear boutique, a costume shop and a dance library. LDAA is also the home of Litchfield Ballet Foundation which supports the Litchfield Dance Company.
Ilka let me participate in one of her adult ballet classes. We had a great time with her students. L to R: Mary Eaton, Ilka, Judi McLeod, Cindy Sherwood and Roselle Wright
Litchfield Dance Arts Academy held its Christmas Show performances in early December. Ilka wore me on stage when the audience applauded all of her students. I think they were applauding for me too.
Ilka also wanted to be sure she got a photo with me and her company dancers after they performed “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.” What a Sasee song!
Several of Ilka’s students danced for members of the Litchfield Country Club at their Annual Holiday Women’s Luncheon. One of her teachers, Rachel Ayers Tipton, was there, too.
Litchfield Dance Arts Academy decorated a Christmas tree for the Tidelands Community Hospice Tree Fundraiser this year. She and I were there with her daughter, Lida (back left), Susan Wood (right front), and Sydney Wood (back right). Don’t those girls look beautiful in their costumes?
