Letter from the Editor: Attitude
I share my home with four wild and crazy little dogs, and a lot of what I’ve learned about attitude came from them. All of them are mine because someone else did not want them. Hermione, a mutt, was abandoned along Hwy. 17 when she was little more than a puppy, and the other three are from Coastal Jack Russell Terrier Rescue, where I serve on the board of directors. Jacky was horribly abused and left with a broken leg that never completely healed, Lizzie was given up by two different families before coming to me, and the latest addition had her nose bitten off and was due to be euthanized before I agreed to take her (we named her Dorothy Vader). In spite of their traumatic pasts, these are the happiest dogs you’ve ever seen, greeting me each day with joyful barks and wagging tails. To them, every day is new and exciting. They live completely in the present and enjoy each moment to the fullest, appreciating the great gift of life that we all share. It is impossible not to smile in their presence.
Enjoy our Attitude issue. We have two very special Mother’s Day stories that will touch your heart, as well as essays by some of your favorite writers.
