Karen Payton’s passion for fabric began as a young girl watching her mother design and sew belly-dancing costumes. She pursued her love of clothing at Northern Illinois University, where she studied both textiles and fiber art. She went on to work in the clothing industry and earned a masters degree in marketing, but after the birth of her two sons, she left corporate life to dedicate her time to family and art. After many years of finding her way through fabric, sewing and embroidery, Karen has developed a unique process to design her images. The artist uses old clothing and fabric remnants, combined with hand embroidery to create images of women, and her goal is to express feelings of love, harmony and joy through stitches and fabric.
