Letter from the Editor: Going Home
By Leslie Moore

As the only child of older parents, I spent a lot of time growing up listening to my parents, and their friends, talk. They talked about everything from their favorite foods to the skeletons in the family closet, and I cherish the many things I learned about my parents’ lives that they may not have told me otherwise. I still enjoy hearing my older friends talk about their life experiences and have decided that, while many things have changed, the important ones remain constant – family, friends and the simple pleasures of everyday life. There is a non-profit, StoryCorps, that has recorded more than 50,000 life stories since 2003, told by people from all over the United States. These conversations are preserved in the Library of Congress for future generations and comprise one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. Anyone can record a story and send it to them, and there are even mobile recording booths that move around the country. If you’re interested, the website is www.storycorps.org.
This month, one of my very good friends, Dottie Dixon, agreed to be interviewed for our “Southern Snaps” feature, and I spent a very pleasant afternoon listening to her reminisce about her life. I hope you enjoy learning a little about the life of this very special woman. If you have a special story, or know someone who does, please let us know. Drop me an e-mail at editor@sasee.com, or mail a note to 1357 21st Ave. N., Ste. 102, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
Home is where we tie one end of the thread of life.
