Letter from the Editor: Gracious Goodness

By Leslie Moore

Sasee Theme: Gracious Goodness

Good manners are something most of us are taught as small children to help us navigate not just social situations, but day-to-day living. Even today, I can hear my mother’s voice telling me not to gossip or speak negatively of others – not that I’ve always heeded her advice. Recently, my friend Daphne told me about a book she was reading, A Complaint Free World, by Will Bowen, pastor of a church in Missouri. Bowen challenges his readers to go 21 days without complaining, gossiping or criticizing. He suggests you order a purple silicone bracelet his church gives away for free as a reminder. Every time you forget and complain, criticize or gossip, you move the bracelet to the other wrist. I bought the book, ordered the bracelet and put it on about a week ago. The book is uplifting and well-written, but I haven’t gone a whole day without moving my bracelet. I’m not giving up. Bowen says it takes the average person four to eight months to complete the challenge, but upon doing so, you’ll change your life for the better. I think my mother would approve.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Leslie

The longer I live, the more beautiful life becomes.
