Letter from the Editor: All Dolled Up!
By Leslie Moore

Some of my fondest childhood memories are of watching my beautiful and stylish mother get dressed to go out with my father. I would stare at her while she applied her make-up, and, usually, she would put a little lipstick on me. I think that’s when my love of beauty products was born. This month, I had the opportunity to interview Meg O’Brien, nationally known make-up artist and reviewer. She brought a bag full of wonderful products for me to try and, one product, Zakia’s Morocco Argan Oil, was especially interesting. I wrote Meg a note to find out more, and, to my great surprise, I received a call from the co-owner of the company, Ralph Haman. This organic oil is made from nuts that grow only in Morocco and are harvested by women-owned cooperatives in very poor areas, giving the Berber women of southwestern Morocco a sustainable income for themselves and their families. Ralph then told me that European woman have been using this product as a beauty treatment for hair and skin for many years, but it is just becoming available here. I was fascinated by this story (and the fact that Ralph called me from Paris!). If you’re interested in learning more, the website is www.zakiasmorocco.com.
We had a lot of fun putting this issue together. And, personally, I think it is best read in a comfortable chair with a cool drink by your side – enjoy!
Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.
