Faith in Miracles: Ginger Gray

Ginger Gray, Doodlebugs

What about you would surprise people?

Probably that I continue to enjoy my job and am so passionate about this business. We have faced many struggles over the last two years with the fire and the recent flooding, but always seem to bounce back and keep on going. Our struggles have made us stronger and have made me appreciate it all on a new level. We are blessed with wonderful friends and customers that have shown so much support through everything, and it really makes what I do easy to love.

In this “Season of Miracles,” please tell us about a personal miracle in your life.

I can’t say that I have experienced an actual miracle, but I have experienced many blessings from God. In July of 2013, I lost my precious father to cancer. In August I lost a cousin in a boating accident, and in September of the same year, we lost our business to the massive Front Street fire. It was truly a season of painful experiences, but with much prayer and an overwhelming amount of support from our community and friends we were able to find a new location and reopen within six weeks. Although we have been bombarded with struggles in the recent years, my faith has been the one constant that keeps me going. One of my favorite Bible verses has always been 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” I have had to lean on my faith quite a bit lately, but one thing I know is that God never lets us down.

If you celebrate Christmas, who puts up the tree?

I always put up our Christmas tree. It starts off as a family event, but typically after about 30 minutes I’m left alone to finish! One year my husband decided to surprise me and put the tree up without me. My mom and I drove up from shopping that evening, and there was the tree with a huge dark spot facing the window where no lights were placed. We don’t let him do it unsupervised anymore.

What is your favorite holiday activity?

Time spent with our families – we celebrate Christmas with my husband’s family on Christmas Eve, and this is one of my favorite times. I was an only child so the holidays at my house were usually on the quiet side, but my husband has two brothers, and it is usually quite loud! We attend our Christmas Eve service at church and return to have dinner and open presents. An Elvis Christmas CD is always playing in the background because that was his dad’s favorite, and by the end of the evening we have pulled out old movies of past Christmas celebrations. The kids always enjoy watching those!
