A Culinary Symphony

By Leslie Moore

Once a year, on the south end of the Grand Strand, the love of food and the love of beauty come together for one magical night. A fundraiser for the popular Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art, this event always sells out – once you attend, you never want to miss this unique celebration of food and drink.

On the evening of the first Saturday in March, excited groups gather for a pre-event cocktail party where they are told which of the fifteen or so beautiful homes will host their special gastronomical experience. Each group of 8, 10 or 12 then makes their way to a grand home where hosts are waiting to greet them with special cocktails and appetizers prepared by some of our community’s finest chefs. While the chef finishes up this amazing meal, local musicians entertain the group.

When it is time to dine, guests are seated at tables laid with the finest china and fresh flowers. Each course is explained by the chef and expertly served by the host and helpers. When, all too soon, the evening comes to a close, those in attendance are already thinking of next year’s A Culinary Symphony.

Best of all, this event raises needed funding for Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art to continue bringing world class musicians to our area – for concerts, to give music education workshops in local schools and to provide scholarships and grants that bring the beauty of the arts to all residents of our community.
