Brighten Your Home with Paint

By Kimberlee Stewart

Whether you’re painting a new home or changing your existing colors, we have some great color options available. We are really excited about the new Magnolia Line from Joanna Gaines. The paint is manufactured by Kilz and the colors are developed by Joanna. The colors are fabulous and the paint quality is excellent.  There are only 150 colors to choose from, but that actually makes it easier to decide. Currently, neutrals are by far the most popular for walls. They create a really great background and allow your furnishings to stand out. I also find that you don’t get tired of them too quickly. Yarn, Wedding Band and Sunday Stroll are very popular colors.

Griege (gray/beige) neutrals seem to be the most popular colors currently. Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore, Oak Terrace by Clark & Kensington, and Sculpting Clay by Valspar are also very popular as well. The darker colors are just not as popular, but you can still do power colors. A dining room is stunning in navy or red – or an espresso brown or gold. This is a popular room to add bold colors. Bedrooms are, to me, personal spaces and don’t have to follow the color outline of the public spaces in the home, particularly for children’s rooms. Don’t pay too much attention to color trends. Go with what you like, you will be much happier.

If you have a darker space, brighten it up by choosing a nice white – not too brilliant or cold – and use that color in three different finishes so you get a great blend, but you build a little contrast. You can use a flat finish on the ceiling, eggshell on the walls and semi gloss on the trim. The sheen creates contrast and builds on the color.

We are happy to help you decide what works best for you. Stop by the store and give us an idea of where you’re headed with colors. Bring fabric samples or whatever you’re using as accents. We also do on site consultations. There is a fee, but this can really help you make the right decision.

Finally, always buy quality paint. Regardless of color, your finished product will be richer looking and last much longer.
