Letter from the Editor: A World of Color

Hair is important to women – a change in cut or color is nearly always preceded by much thought and conversation with our closest friends. I’ve participated in many of these conversations and have seen my friends get spectacular results. And while I do want my hair to look nice, I’ve never felt quite as stylish as some of my gorgeous friends. The color of my hair is the one thing I’ve always liked though, and except for a brief period in middle school when I didn’t like much of anything about myself, my bright, strawberry blond color is one thing I never wanted to change. Redheads gray a little differently than most; as I’ve gotten older, my hair has faded from bright to muted, with gray streaks getting larger every year. One of my oldest and dearest friends, Daphne King, is a super talented hair stylist and colorist, as well as a beautiful person inside and out. Her skill has kept my crazy hair looking presentable for most of my adult life. In this issue, I interviewed Daphne about how we deal with our graying hair, and, while I was in her salon, Daphne colored my hair! When she was finished, my hair looked much like it did before I had a single strand of gray. It is so pretty, and I finally understand why so many of my friends color their hair. I don’t know if I’ll do this forever, but for now, I love it!

Another thing we all love is makeup, and I had so much fun interviewing Casey Jones, Estee Lauder Account Coordinator. Casey specializes in makeup for women over 50 and loves helping women look their best. She has agreed to do two master classes this month, on June 15th, at the Belk at Coastal Grand Mall. The classes are free; all you need is your own makeup brushes and she provides all the makeup. See the interview and ad in this issue for information on how to sign up. I hope to see you there!

Joy is the best makeup. But a little lipstick is a close runner-up.
