Letter from the Editor: Making Memories

I’m blaming my busy, slightly over committed life for my recent inability to remember anything I don’t write down or type into my iPhone. I look at my calendar two or three times a day to make sure I’m not forgetting to do something important. But, all the Thanksgiving dinners of my lifetime are etched into my brain – I can remember the exact taste of my mother’s cornbread dressing, heavy on the sage, and the smell of the kitchen as it baked. And, I remember the years of two Thanksgiving meals in one day when the children were small and we took them to both grandparents’ houses for a few hours – and were well fed at both. These celebrations are still as clear as last Thanksgiving – another memorable day with family. As I come to the end of my 50s, I find I’m so much more appreciative of gatherings like these – where the most important dish is the love we share.

Our Sasee writers share many poignant memories in this issue that I know you’ll enjoy reading as much as I did. And as I give thanks this year, I include all of you. Thank you, dear readers, for reading and commenting on this publication – putting it together is labor of love.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.
