You Might Need a Bigger Closet!

By Mandi Reaves

One of the joys of Christmas is dressing up for holiday parties and gatherings. We have several large parties we attend every year; from the big country club party at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club to smaller drop-ins and a big ornament exchange I do with my friends. Plus we have a Christmas Cantata at church and our Christmas Eve service we look forward to attending. Whether I’m in full holiday glitz in cocktail attire or rocking a pair of skinny jeans and a nice holiday top, my Christmas party look is always about the sparkle.

As co-owner of Monkee’s in Barefoot Landing, I often get asked what pieces are important to invest in to get several looks. I tell everyone that a pair of black dress pants or leggings can be paired with a dressy holiday top or really good earrings and you’re party-ready. Another piece to dress up or down is a good pair of designer jeans. Add a simple black top and holiday earrings – and a cute pair of heels – you’re out the door looking fabulous. Add a fun, funky coat for another easy way to be stylish at your next holiday event. For New Year’s Eve you’ll want to take it up a notch and wear something that sparkles and glitters. Whether it’s your shoes, your jewelry, your bag or your dress, just make sure you start the new year with a little light, a little sparkle. No matter where I am for New Year’s Eve, I’ll find a soiree to attend.

My business partner, Sonya and I both put our careers on hold to stay at home with our children, but knew we wanted to go back to work doing something we truly love. My son is now 13 and my daughter is 7 – I knew it was time.

Sonya and I don’t have retail backgrounds, but felt there was a need for a real, hands-on boutique in the Grand Strand area. And I have always loved to shop where I’m given personalized service. A true boutique should give you the feeling you’ve walked into someone’s living room to shop with a try-on session. Because we’re both natives – I was raised in North Myrtle Beach – and because we’re here, watching trends and seeing opportunities, we felt this was the perfect time to open a Monkee’s. I’ve always loved the franchise.

I enjoy helping people find the perfect holiday gift, and we have something for everyone on your list – whether you are shopping for your mother, your grandmother or your daughter. I dress my 90 year old grandmother from our shop – and she loves the outfits. And we offer personalized wrapping services with gorgeous paper. That’s year round, by the way, not just at the holidays.

Please stop by Barefoot Landing and say hello. We are very excited to be here and to dress the beach!
