Susan Speaks: Women of Character

Sasee in the City: Susan Speaks

This week Susan Bryant looks to the new year and our partnership with WMBF News. Together we will be honoring the “Women of Character” in our community. As women, we know that our relationships with other women are so important. If you know a woman who has touched, inspired or even changed you forever in some way, send us your essay of 500 words or less. A special woman will be chosen each month next year and featured in Sasee and on WMBF News.

Sasee in the City events this week are the Cocktails for Caring Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser on November 7th at Karma Nightlife in Myrtle Beach from 7 pm until midnight. On the 8th and 9th, Art in the Park will be back in Chapin Park. Also on the 8th is the Island Fever Music Fest at La Belle Amie Vineyards. The popular Creative Exchange Series is back on November 12 and will feature local authors Pat Gambarelli and Mark Smith.

Sasee in the City with Delores Blount

Sasee in the City with Delores Blount

It’s time to have fun with Halloween decorations! Delores Blount gives us some great ideas for Halloween decorating that can be used through Thanksgiving with just a few changes. Delores shows us a great Halloween arrangement made using wild flowers and vines picked from the roadside, and a fun and whimsical arrangement using pumpkins and gourds. It’s easy to get in the spirit with your outside decorations using old sheets for ghosts and inexpensive “spider webs,” etc. To light up an area, make a “tree” from wire or vines and string with Halloween lights. These can easily be changed for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Sasee in the City events this week are the South Strand Garden Club’s Annual Fashion Show on the 27th at First Methodist Church in Surfside, and, on Halloween, the Moveable Feast will feature Anne Rivers Siddons, author of Off Season, at Pawleys Plantation. Art lovers won’t want to miss the Art Walk in downtown Conway on November 1 – it’s not too early to start buying those special Christmas gifts.
