Cover Artist: Rose West

Rose West, born in Gainesville, GA, in 2009, began her early education in New York City, where she spent Sundays at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with her parents. In 2017, her family relocated to Pawleys Island, where she is currently a sophomore at Waccamaw High School. As a fellow of the CEW Collaborative, Rose works closely with her mentor, Charles Edward Williams, to further develop her artistic skills. Committed to fine arts, she has attended the Savannah College of Art and Design’s (SCAD) Pre-College Program, enriching her understanding of the creative world. She has also engaged in numerous art programs beyond high school, such as the Georgetown County Schools Beach Art Program.

Rose is passionate about portraiture, particularly painting women in varying emotional states that resonate with her personal experiences. The cover painting ‘Shattered Light, Mended Soul,’ created after a challenging spring followed by a transformative summer, symbolizes her growing awareness of the brightness of her future. The painting captures a woman awakening to the many beautiful facets of herself.
