Bettye Brookfield is an accomplished artist and educator with a Master of Fine Arts from Memphis College of Art. Her studies have taken her around the world—from art history at Cambridge University in England, to painting in Provence, France, and architecture in Barcelona, Spain. She returned to her home state of Kentucky to serve as Chair of Fine Arts at St. Catharine College, where she worked for over 20 years, contributing to academic leadership and regional arts development.
After the unexpected closure of St. Catharine College, Brookfield found a new opportunity at Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A visit to the campus led to a serendipitous meeting with the Chair of Fine Arts, who offered her a position as a Teaching Associate in Art.
Since relocating, she has remained active in the local arts community. For the past three years, she has served on the Cultural Resources Committee of Myrtle Beach, working with City Council to shape the Arts and Innovation District. Previously, she spent six years with the Mayor’s Downtown Beautification Initiative in Springfield, Kentucky.
Brookfield also served on the Board of the Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild and will soon showcase her work at Gallery 320 in Myrtle Beach.
